The Different Types of Braces

Braces are commonly known and effective at straightening teeth and improving your smile. It is also known that adults and young teenagers who have had treatment have many success stories and better oral health. However, because of the new styles and kinds of braces, more adults are turning to orthodontics each day. Now, adults have the chance to find a type of braces that works for them too!

When it comes to orthodontic treatments, your orthodontist, Dr. Catherine with A Winning Smile Orthodontics in Worthington, Ohio, will be able to recommend the specific kind for your unique needs. There are, however, three standard and very distinct types of braces.  These three braces include traditional braces, ceramic braces, and clear aligners that our team is excited to talk to you about.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are a popular option for young adults because they are harder to see and blend into the natural teeth. These braces involve brackets that bond to the individual tooth and are more discreet. In some cases, you can color the ceramic for style and fun, which is a great idea to do for young teenagers.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are more readily known and contain many wires, rubber bands, and brackets that are bonded to each tooth. These brackets move the teeth and jaw into the perfect alignment a little bit at a time. This is an excellent option and very common in young adults and teenagers and most cost-effective.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are specialized systems, such as Invisalign®, which works through a network of clear aligners that snap over your teeth. These aligners are transparent, meaning discreet, and since they snap on and off, there are no food restrictions. Usually, each aligner needs to be traded for a new one about every two weeks to keep your alignment in check.

Not every type of braces will work for everyone. Still, depending on your current alignment, our orthodontist will be able to help you find the right orthodontic treatment for you.
