Tips on How to Fix Braces Irritations

If you have braces, you’re on your way toward the top-notch smile you deserve! During your treatment, you might experience some appliance mishaps. This could cause irritations and even sores in the mouth. If this ever happens to you, our orthodontist, Dr. Catherine Scheurer McDevitt, would like to help you. Just use these tips:

-For mouth cuts and sores: Swish with salt water and then cover the bothersome sections of the appliance with orthodontic wax. Our team should have given you wax when you first got your braces.

-For broken brackets: Try to keep the bracket in place and avoid playing with it. This can help you avoid severely affecting the alignment process. You can keep the bracket in place by covering it with orthodontic wax. When you get the chance, call our office and schedule an appointment to get this fixed.

-For broken or bent wires: Use a pencil eraser to push the wire back into place. Then, cover the wire with orthodontic wax to keep it from bothering your mouth. If you can’t relocate the wire, you can cut it with fingernail clippers.

Now, remember: If the braces are broken in any way, it’s important to call A Winning Smile Orthodontics and schedule an appointment when you can. That way you don’t delay your treatment.
