Why Is Fluoride Beneficial for Your Oral Health?

Did you know that fluoride is considered beneficial for your oral health? Although it may seem surprising given that it is a mineral that at very large doses can be toxic for infants, fluoride is considered safe for human consumption. Due to its benefits, fluoride has been added to a wide array of products and even into the public water supply.

Fluoride naturally occurs all over the world in many large bodies of water. Although it is possible to have some fluoride treatment naturally, fluoride is most often received through ingestion or via cleaning tools. Cleaning tools such as toothpaste and mouthwash commonly contain fluoride to help keep your teeth clean and strong. Fluoride works by strengthening your tooth enamel and protecting your smile from the harmful effects of tooth decay and dental erosion. With fluoride treatments, you will be less likely to develop cavities. For additional fluoride treatments, your dentist can offer you professional fluoride treatments. You can also supplement your oral health care with fluoride tablets, drops, and lozenges.

If you think you require fluoride supplementation, please call A Winning Smile Orthodontics so we can get you in to see Dr. Catherine Scheurer McDevitt and our team as soon as possible. Our office is located in Worthington, Ohio, and we can be reached at 614-888-8070. We look forward to seeing you smile bright this season.
